Notes

Curriculum guidance for the foundation stage, published in a loose-leaf ring binder by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) in May 2000, was for early years practitioners in grant-funded nurseries and schools with nursery and reception-age children.

It was followed, in October 2001, by Planning for learning in the foundation stage, published by the QCA as part of the SureStart programme.

Both are presented here as pdf files, created from photocopies of the originals.

The printed versions were in colour throughout: only the cover of Curriculum guidance is reproduced in colour here.

Note that, in Curriculum guidance, from page 32 (pdf page 33) onwards, the left-hand pages ('Stepping stones' and 'Examples of what children do') and the right-hand pages ('What does the practitioner need to do?') are meant to be read side-by-side.
